This language learning class is also very unique, it’s not in the conventional class but in the nature, with contextual learning methods that prioritize the knowledge and experience with environmental in the real-world, interaction with nature and culture. With this method, children are introduced to and become close to nature, learn about human ethics towards nature which entrusts the values of goodness. In addition to learning the language, the most important thing is to shape the mental and character of children.

Why English?

Because English is the entrance to know the world and English is the unifying language of the world. English learning classes don’t take away the children (students) from their identity, but on the contrary, the English language learning classes that we build bring children closer to their cultural roots. This class will learn how our civilization was built, how we care for it and how we plan what our civilization will look like in the future. In particular, this class will also build children's awareness about the importance of culture and nature as the pillars of human life. One day, these children will be the motor in maintaining their identity. For this reason, learning English is very important.

This Learning Class has also a new name “Rumah Gemohing”, where Gemohing is one of the main subjects. It is hoped that the noble values of Gemohing, the legacy of the Lamaholot ancestors which has deep profound meaning, will be firmly embedded in the mental and character of the children.

We also welcome for domestic and foreign volunteers who want to join us, sharing knowledge and teach our children in villages. While they also can learn Lembata ethnic culture and make this experience enriching their life.

The opening of the English learning class, 12 November was also coincided with National Father's Day. It’s a gift from me to my beloved father, Yan Sule Batafor, who during his lifetime was also a dedicated English teacher in Lembata. Promised to be able to open more schools in our beloved island, Lembata. Smile from Heaven, Dad. (c)JB, Taman Daun
